Parents trying to make an important decision for their children’s education have valid concerns. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions.
1. Can my children get a quality education at a Christian school?
Heritage Christian Academy was established over 25 years ago and our staff has an average of over 15 years teaching experience. Our SAT scores consistently score in the average to above average range and students at HCA typically exceed grade level expectations. There are abundant opportunities for students to excel in areas such as local and regional Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Math Olympics and Art Fairs. Our small student teacher ratio in addition to our solid academic training, loving staff, and commitment to excellence assist in providing a quality Christian education for each and every student.
2. What is a Christian education?
Our goal as a Christian school is not only to prepare students for further academic achievement and ultimately an occupation; our goal is also to prepare students for life. The development of Christian character and a love for God is essential for each child to be fully equipped for their future. Christian schools provide an education for the whole child…“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work,” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
3. I know lots of kids that attend public school and they turned out fine. Why should my children attend a Christian school?
We understand that the decision of where to send your child to school is an important one. We would encourage you to take all your alternatives before our Lord in prayer. We want to partner with you. We believe that the consistent message that your children receive at home, at church and at school helps to encourage and equip your children to know and live for Christ. There is strength in unity. We will make every effort to join hands with you in “Training up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
4. Should my kids be in public school to be the salt and light to those who don’t know Christ?
We all want our children to be the salt and light at all times in all places. Our goal as parents and as a Christian school is to prepare the children to be able to explain a biblical worldview and to explain the truth of the Gospel. Most children are not equipped yet to effectively explain God’s truths. Our goal is to stand beside parents. We want to extend a hand to families and help give the children the tools to they need to share the Gospel.
5. Won’t my children be sheltered in a Christian School?
Children face worldly influences whether they attend a Christian School or a public school. The difference is at a Christian School the teachers teach openly the Biblical truths about worldly influences. Hence producing young adults that are trained up for living Godly lives and who have God’s Word hidden in their hearts; an essential tool needed to face issues in their future.
6. Sports are important to our family. HCA does not have an athletic program. What are my alternatives?
HCA does offer physical education class and opportunities over the course of the year to participate in activities such as Field Day, Creative Arts Dance, and Recess. We strongly encourage parents to check with their local towns for a list of after school recreations that their children can participate in. Although we do not currently offer intramural sports program we strongly encourage families to participate in alternatives sports and recreation activities in their own towns.
7. When is the best time to put my children in a Christian school?
We would encourage you to put your requests before the Lord. If you decide to put your children in public school that is not a sin. We would encourage you to ask yourself what would be the best environment for my child. Putting your children in a Christian school will provide them with biblical principles that support what you are teaching your children at home. That may not always be the case in a public school setting.
8. How will we afford Christian Education?
We believe God honors our attempts to teach His children biblical principles by enrolling them in a Christian School environment. If God leads you in that decision making, then we trust He will also meet your needs financially. At HCA we offer Financial Aid opportunities to qualifying families as well as academic scholarships that provide tuition discounts. Several other programs are available to lessen the financial burden.
9. Do you offer transportation services?
HCA does not offer transportation services. We would be glad to help families partner with other parents who may be interested in car pooling. Once car-pooling arrangements have been made, it is the responsibility of the parents – not HCA – to notify one another in the event that one cannot drive. When students arrive to school late due to tardiness of the car pool driver, their tardiness will be excused.
10. Does HCA have Bible class and Chapel?
Bible is an integral part of the curriculum at HCA and is a required subject taught daily in every grade. Students also assemble for chapel on a weekly basis. Parents are invited to join us for chapel each week.
11. What curriculum does HCA use?
Heritage Christian Academy is committed to use curriculum based on the Bible and all truths found therein. The textbooks used in all grades support the Christian commitment of HCA. Some of the publishers we use are:
